Merseyside, English Coast

Merseyside coastal attractions include Liverpool's Albert Dock, the Victorian promenade at Southport, the beach statues at Crosby, internationally reknowned golf courses such as Royal Birkdale, and a number of important coastal nature reserves spread across the 100 mile Merseyside coastline.

The Sefton Coast area is protected through a series of designations, including Special Protection Area (SPA) status, Ramsar wetland designation, and includes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) areas. The Sefton Coast includes beach habitat, sand dunes (the largest dune system in England), and woodland which is one of the last places in England where you will find Red Squirrels thriving. The area is internationally important for it's rare wildlife species including Sand lizards, Natterjack toads, and the Great-crested Newt.

The RSPB Marshside Nature Reserve is one of the most important sites in England for wildfowl over winter.
