Sheerness, Kent, English Coast
Sheerness is a town on the Isle of Sheppey in north Kent. It was originally built as a fort in the 16th century to protect the Naval dockyard at Chatham from attack. A naval dockyard was later built which closed in 1960. The Port of Sheerness is one of the largest foreign car import locations in the UK.
Sheerness has a 19th Century pier and a promenade. The Sheerness sand and shingle beach has a European Blue Flag award.
