Herne Bay, Kent, English Coast
The town of Herne Bay rose to prominence as a seaside resort during the early 19th century after the building of a pleasure pier and promenade, the town reaching its heyday in the late Victorian era.
Herne Bay's seafront is home to the world's first freestanding purpose-built clock tower, built in 1837, and also features a Victorian bandstand and gardens, a pier and typical seaside amusements. Further up the esplanade are beach huts and a shingle beach. Watersports are popular with jetskis and windsurfing. There are also sailing, rowing and yachting clubs.
Out to sea is the Kentish Flats off-shore wind farm.
